I’ve read a bit about your professional interests and experience, and thought you might be interested in getting involved in our organization.

SAFE is made of U.S. physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals dedicated to eliminating the American firearm violence epidemic through research, education, and evidence based policy. Our goals are to implement a standardized medical curriculum about firearm safety in medical schools and residency programs, raise funding for firearms research to improve our knowledge about how to best combat this issue, and support evidence-based policy changes.

We are organizing an event on September 16th, 2019 where healthcare providers can unify their voices to demand that firearm violence be treated as the public health problem it is. We are hoping that medical schools, hospitals and providers all across the country will show their support by wearing custom scrub tops that will be supplied for free to any interested medical student, signing our online petition and, if free from clinical responsibilities, attending local educational activities.

We believe that having a unified voice for healthcare providers can elevate this devastating issue out of politics into the realm of public health. We are an entirely apolitical organization, and exclusively support policy that has supporting rigorous scientific research. We currently have 47+ and counting medical schools participating (https://www.standsafe.org/chapters/), and hope to get even more schools and medical centers involved over the next few weeks.

I am attaching a one page document that summarizes who we are, our mission, our goals, and some other important information about the organization. This would be fairly low time commitment, and would primarily involve spreading the word about the Sept 16th event, encouraging participation, and helping to put together our educational event. On September 16th 2019, there will be a nationwide movement where medical providers will Stand SAFE at medical schools across the country to raise awareness of firearm violence as a public health problem and call for action to end this devastating epidemic. We are one of the 30+ schools that are participating, and it would be really impactful to see as many physicians and healthcare providers as possible representing [INSERT INSTITUTION] as possible. We will be distributing scrubs with the "SAFE" logo in institutions across the country to represent SAFE for the September 16th event. If you are interested in a scrub top, we ask that you make a donation of at least $10 towards gun violence research. You can donate on our website here.
